The Godfather

Actors: Marlon Brandon, Al Pacino, James Caan

Year: 1972

The Godfather is the one of the greatest gangster films of all times.  It is about the head of the Corleone family, Don Vito Corleone and his son Michael.  This New York Mafia family, has business problems with a drug dealer name Sollozo.  This causes a war between the Corleone family and Sollozo. Michael was never involved in family business, until there was an attempted murder on his father.

Dialogue:

Dialogue is when characters talk to one another in the film (Goodykoontz, B. & Jacobs, C. P. 2011).  Don Corleone distinctive voice is one of the icons of this movie.  There were also a few quotes that can be recognized by anybody because they have become part of our culture.  Most of the dialogues on this film used a threatening tone because of the nature of criminals.

Sound Effect:

There was a scene when Michael meets with Sollozo and McCluskey at a restaurant.  When Michael goes to the bathroom to get the gun, you can hear a train sound on the background.  When he goes back to the table and shoots Sollozo and McClusley, you can hear the sound of a train on the background.  I think it is Michael’s heart or nervousness because he is about to shoot somebody.

Music:

At the wedding scene the whole family is together celebrating Connie Corleone’s wedding.  Diegetic music is used on this film because the Corleone’s family are celebrating their Italian culture and heritage.  The non-diegetic music is the background music we hear on the background of a scene.
